Designer & Media Specialist, Alex Herbias
Alex Herbias is the official Web Designer for the SDSU Library but he’s also the go-to Graphic Designer, Print Designer, Photographer and Videographer. And if you couldn't tell, he also has a sense of humor.
Redesign for the Time
Alex is more than just a front-end aesthetician, he’s an organizer of information. The redesign for the SDSU Library’s website remains his pride and joy because it embodies his vision of a contemporary, student-focused, resource hub encompassing 5 major points of service, a multitude of help and services, and a digital-info interface for all of SDSU’s 33,000+ students and 3,000+ faculty and staff.
The New Library Notion
Aside from info gathering, Alex exercises his design superpowers regularly to amplify and showcase the library’s fun, friendly and helpful nature. For example, a whimsical attitude can be seen throughout the library’s website, digital and print signs, YouTube videos and faculty/staff photography. The tongue-in-cheek approach toward all things library has always been to first, amuse, and second, deconstruct the traditional stereotypes of libraries as places of silence and strict rules.
Snapchat? No, Just a Snap
If Alex isn’t caught behind a computer he can most likely be found around campus snapping photos or creating video content. Alex has taken on the unofficial roles of both photographer and videographer to encapsulate many of the library’s events, art ties, and campus relationships, all the while rounding off the library’s image as a student sanctuary and global provider of information.
Alex has a B.A. in Economics from the University of California, Riverside. His design, development and marketing expertise were born from experience, a love of the arts, and certification from San Diego Continuing Education.
