Embed Videos

Adding Digital Learning Objects to Blackboard 9

There are many repositories of interactive digital learning objects, such as tutorials, videos, and simulations available online for students to use. If you see something out there you like, please let your library liaison know so the Library can investigate establishing it or something similar here at SDSU.

Locate the digital learning object you would like to include in your course on Blackboard

    • Refer to the library’s Multimedia Guide for tips on where to find digital learning objects
    • Follow the link to the URL for the desired digital learning object
    • You may have the option to link to the object or to embed the object directly into your course on Blackboard (for example, you may be able to embed a video from YouTube to play inside of Blackboard).
    • Press Ctrl-C to copy the URL from the web browser's URL box or locate a copy the HTML embed code for the object.

How to integrate this into Blackboard: Linking to the Object

    • From the Course Menu in Blackboard, choose the Content Area where you'd like this link to appear
    • Select 'Build Content,' 'Create,' and 'Web Link'
    • Enter a name in the name field
    • Press Ctrl-V to paste the URL into the URL field
    • Add a description, if desired
    • Under Options, change the radio button to 'Open in a New Window' (This step is important because, in our experience, links to videos from YouTube, for example, do not always open correctly inside of the Blackboard frame).
    • Click Submit
