Adaptive Performance of Brown Girl Dreaming

Brown Girl Dreaming, Jacqueline Woodson’s lyric memoir about finding her voice as a young African American writer, will be collaboratively adapted for performance by the students in Professor Dani Bedau’s THEA 510 advanced Creative Drama course. This 30-minute adaptation will focus on themes of civil rights, education and learning, and growing up African American in the 1960’s and 70’s. This hybrid piece will feature live performance and a range of visual and mediatized images.
