Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

As a Hispanic-Serving Institution located on the traditional lands of the indigenous Kumeyaay people, San Diego State University Library is deeply committed to supporting our diverse population of students, faculty, and staff. We are an organization of information professionals dedicated to empowering others to access, interpret, and create knowledge that encourages evidence-based analysis and respectful scholarly debate.

Advancing the library’s DEI goals and priorities is the responsibility of all library employees, including managers, faculty, staff, and student assistants. Our Statement on Diversity Equity and Inclusion offers more detail on our efforts.

The Library Diversity Council (LDC) is charged with coordinating the Library’s overall progress toward meeting the goals of its 2021 diversity plan and coordinating with other college diversity councils. The LDC’s role primarily is to coordinate that work, including making progress in meeting the library’s strategic diversity goals. The LDC will guide and hold the Library accountable in the integration of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all aspects of the work at the San Diego State University Library. This includes implementation and adherence to the Library Diversity Plan.

Update Spring 2025: In alignment with the next phase of our campus-wide strategic plan, We Rise We Defy: Transcending Borders, Transforming Lives, the University Library will spend the next several months evaluating progress toward the goals outlined in its 2020 diversity plan. We will also be planning the next iteration of the plan to align with the university’s second phase of the strategic plan, for the 2025-2030 period. Watch this space for updates and connect with our Diversity Council or Diversity Liaison to get involved!
