Allison Bailund - New To The Faculty But Not New To The Library

Allison Bailund

Congratulations to Allison Bailund, who has joined the library faculty as Principal Cataloging Librarian this fall. Bailund joined the library staff in 2016 as an Acquisitions & Cataloging Specialist and later promoted to Monographs Cataloging Coordinator. So moving to the faculty is a new role, but she is not a new face in the library.

She has been a leader in the cataloging community in the CSU and nationally, with special recognition for her work in inclusive cataloging and cataloging for comics and fiction. She has served in leadership roles on the CSU's ULMS Inclusive Description Task Force, the ALA Graphic Novels and Comics Round Table's Metadata and Cataloging Committee, the NACO/SACO Comics and Fiction Funnel, and more. Her most recent work was included in the edited collection, Inclusive Cataloging: Histories, Contexts, and Reparative Approaches (ALA, 2024). She also recently published an exploratory study on genres in the Library of Congress Genre Form Term (LCGFT) vocabulary in Cataloging and Classification Quarterly:

In her new role she plans to continue working on inclusive cataloging projects, using alternative vocabularies such as the Homosaurus, Anchor Zine Thesaurus, and First Nations House of Learning. She also hopes to continue improving national cataloging standards for both comics and fiction. Allison plans to expand her leadership role in the cataloging community and is currently serving as vice chair of the ALA Subject Analysis Committee and chair of the CSU SACO (Subject Authority Cooperation Program) Funnel. She looks forward to working and collaborating with her colleagues at SDSU in her new role.
