SDSU Library Faculty Grant Program

Bookshelves

As part of its continuing support for faculty pursuing scholarly initiatives supporting San Diego State University's growth as an R1 institution, the University Library is launching a new grant program for faculty seeking access to library materials - print, digital, or other - that will support either their innovations in teaching or their research, scholarly, or creative activities. The Library Faculty Grant program is being pursued as a component of the University Library's broader collection strategies and complements existing opportunities for SDSU faculty, staff, and students to recommend purchases for the library collection.

The Library Faculty Grant program allows faculty (individually or in groups) to make requests for purchases or short term subscriptions of information resources costing up to $10,000, with the number of grants to be awarded in any given year dependent on the library's discretionary budget for collection purchases in that year. While the program is designed to meet needs for "one-time" purchases most effectively, requests for short-term subscriptions to recurring or licensed resources may also be made for specific research projects and/or for materials supporting classroom teaching as well as other scholarly or creative activities. that support faculty research or the curriculum. Requests for materials or subscriptions that are more costly than $10,000 per faculty member will be considered, but requests that cost less than $10,000 per faculty member or requests with matching funds will be given preference. A full description of the new program, application procedures, rubric for selection, and timeline for review is available on the library web site

Applications for the Library Faculty Grant program are open for the 2026-27 academic year and will remain open through January 1, 2027. Interested faculty should review the FAQs and rubric for selection available on the library web site, and be prepared to collaborate with their liaison librarian on any application for funding through this program. If you have any questions about this program, please contact Tim Tully, Head of Collection Strategies, or Randyn Heisserer-Miller, Associate Dean for Collections, Discovery, and Digital Initiatives.
