SDSU at ALA

The annual meeting of the American Library Association will be held in San Diego from June 27 - July 2, 2024, and San Diego State will be well represented. Among the programs being presented by SDSU faculty and staff are:

  • "Words Matter: Inclusive Cataloging in an Academic Library Consortium" (Allison Bailund)
  • "Prompting the Robot: Testing Heuristic Acronyms for Successful AI Faceted Searching" (Lucy Campbell, Rebecca Nowicki, and Keven Jeffrey)
  • "Let's Get Real: Climate Impacts on Library Services" (Sarah Tribelhorn)
  • "Next-Level Podcasting: DIY Podcasting Studio Makeover" (Patrick Flanigan)
  • "Content Warnings in the Catalog: What Do Students Think?" (Nerissa Lindsey, Kurt Hanselman, and Ashley Wilson)

These and other programs will be offered by SDSU faculty and staff and in collaboration with colleagues from other libraries in San Diego and across the CSU system as part of the largest gathering of librarians in the United States.

The American Library Association, founded in 1876, is the oldest and largest professional association of librarians in the world. Each year, ALA and its divisions, including the Association of College and Research Libraries, sponsor research, advocacy initiatives, continuing education, and other professional development programming for library employees, trustees, community members, and more. Approximately 25,000 ALA members, guests, vendors, and speakers are expected to attend the 2024 Annual Conference in San Diego.
