Head of Collections, Wil Weston
Wil Weston is the collection-coordinating, Converse-wearing, student-centric Head of Collections at the SDSU Library.
Promoting Persistence
As the Head of Collections, Wil coordinates the Library’s collection management program and ensures that users have access to physical and electronic collections that support their scholarly pursuits. Wil’s passion lies in promoting student persistence--helping students persist through college until they graduate. He has done extensive research in this area to uncover what students need to succeed in college and how libraries can support student persistence.
Subject Specialist Extraordinaire
In addition to serving as the Head of Collections, Wil is the Library’s subject specialist for Chemistry & Biochemistry, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Urban Studies, Naval Science, and LGBT Studies. His wide range of subject specialties underscores his diverse interests and expertise. Wil also has experience as an engineering subject specialist, and he’s trained in Geography, so he really is a jack-of-all-trades.
Creator and Collector of Comics
Wil is quite the artist, and you will frequently find him drawing in his sketchbook. He also channels his creative energy into his role on the Library’s Comic Arts Committee. As a member of the Comic Arts Committee, he supports the Library’s goal of becoming a world-renown collector of comics.

Wil's Background
Wil has a Ph.D. in Education Leadership from the University of New Orleans. He received his MLIS, BS in Physical Geography, and BA in the English Creative Writing Program from Louisiana State University.
