(Re)search Lab
October 22, 2026

This Fall semester the Library is introducing a new time and space to support the research of students taking lower division writing classes: the (Re)search Lab. This lab is open to all students enrolled in lower division writing classes such as RWS 100, 200, and equivalent courses. The Lab will be held twice a week from October 19 to November 20. Student can drop in anytime during the lab to receive research assistance from a librarian, do research tutorials, or just have a dedicated time and space to focus on their research assignment. No registration necessary. The Lab has Chromebooks, whiteboards, and large screens ideal for group work. There will also be snacks available! Students who need proof of attendance can sign in and the librarian will send them a certificate.
Rhetoric and Writing 100 and 200 are required courses for all incoming first-year students, and they are often students' first experience with library research. Reading and writing are essential skills for research, and therefore inseparable from information literacy. In fact students’ experience with their first-year research paper has a major impact on their success, both in persisting past their first year of college, and in succeeding in future classes.1
The goal of the (Re)search Lab is to create a dedicated time and space for students to focus on their research assignments and receive help from a librarian. Questions? Contact our Instruction Librarian Suzanne Maguire
