Hugh C. Hyde Living Writers Series Announces Lineup for Fall 2024!
The library is pleased to be partnering once again with the English & Comparative Literature Department to present an exciting slate of authors for the fall 2024 season of the Hugh C. Hyde Living Writers Series. A diverse and impressive group of writers will be appearing; five of the events are in-person to be held in Love Library 430/31; one will be presented virtually. All events are presented free of charge and will be recorded for posting on the Living Writers Series’ YouTube Channel.

The Fall 2024 Season
Adam O. Davis and Arthur Kayzakian will read from their recent poetry collections: Index of Haunted Houses and The Book of Redacted Paintings. This event is co-sponsored by the Instructionally Related Activities Fund.

Jessica Kim will share excerpts from her recent book, Stand Up, Yumi Chung! which has been lauded as “A funny, tender story about family, friendship, and the courage to be yourself!” This event is sponsored by SDSU’s National Center for the Study of Children’s Literature.

Jeffrey Dale Lofton will read from his debut novel, Red Clay Suzie. Lofton has been described as “…a writer’s writer, whose strong, authorial voice captures your imagination with an unshakable grip.” This event is co-sponsored by the Instructionally Related Activities Fund.

Allison Joseph will read from her most recent collection of poetry, Confessions of a Barefaced Woman and answer questions from attendees. Joseph has been celebrated as “… a master of poetic form and technique, which she artfully integrates into her frank, honest, confiding voice.” This event is co-sponsored by the Instructionally Related Activities Fund.

Each semester, thanks to an endowment created by her family and friends, the Laurie Okuma Memorial Reading honors the memory of SDSU alumna, Laurie Matsueda Okuma. The fall 2024 Okuma Author, Suzi Ehtesham-Zadeh, will share selections from her collection of short stories, Zan, which has been lauded as “…nuanced and moving…an uplifting eulogy to the indomitable human spirit.”
