SCUA is open to the general public. Collections do not circulate and are used in our Reading Room. In order to serve you as efficiently as possible, please identify the materials you wish to use in advance of your visit. If you include them on your appointment request, we will retrieve them in advance to reduce your wait time. Otherwise, we will retrieve them during your visit. The amount of materials we are able to retrieve each day may be limited by the number of researchers we are assisting. Our front desk staff are not able to provide in-depth reference assistance. If you need help identifying materials for your research, please contact us in advance and a librarian will be in touch to assist you. During your first visit, you will receive a brief orientation on handling and using materials, and you will review and sign our User Agreement. Laptops, mobile phones, pencil and paper are permitted at your table. We provide lockers for all other personal belongings and water bottles. Food and beverages are not permitted in the Reading Room.

Duplications
Patrons are welcome to take flash-free photos of materials. We also provide a self-service overhead scanner that has USB and email options for retrieving scans. Our User Agreement outlines the terms and conditions for reproducing documents, and does not constitute permission to publish. The department may occasionally prohibit duplication due to confidentiality of certain records, donor agreements, copyright restrictions, or the condition of the materials. We are able to provide remote duplications at no cost on a first come, first serve basis. Lead times and limitations depend on the quantity of material requested and departmental capacity. Contact us to make a request.
